If you’re planning on having roast lamb this Easter, you want a red wine with enough body and structure to match the richness of the meat, but also something with a bit of finesse.
So Left Bank Bordeaux - a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend, like Pauillac, Médoc or Margaux are a classic match. They bring tannins, structure, and herbal notes that echo the rosemary.
The Margaux de Monbrison 2014 is a fantastic choice for you and here’s why it’ll shine:
1. Elegant Structure & Tannins
Being a second wine from Château Monbrison in Margaux, this Bordeaux is Cabernet Sauvignon-led (with some Merlot), offering firm yet refined tannins. Lamb is a naturally fatty, tender meat, and those tannins will cut through the richness, cleansing your palate between bites and enhancing the texture.
2. Aromatic Complexity
The 2014 vintage, with a few years of bottle age, brings out savoury, earthy notes like dried herbs, tobacco, and cedar—perfectly echoing the rosemary, garlic, and possibly thyme often used in roast lamb. At the same time, it still carries that core of dark cherry and cassis fruit that adds lift and contrast to the meat.
3. Balance & Acidity
2014 was a classic, cooler vintage, so this wine isn’t too jammy or heavy—it’s balanced, with fresh acidity. That makes it great with food, because it won’t overwhelm the lamb but will brighten the flavors and complement any jus or side vegetables.
4. Margaux’s Signature Elegance
Wines from Margaux tend to have a floral, silky character, which pairs beautifully with the delicate texture of well-roasted lamb, especially if you’re serving it medium-rare. It elevates the dish without overpowering it.
So pour generously, and let the lamb and wine have a proper Easter conversation 🐑

Looking for recommendations of wine to pair with a lamb Sunday dinner? We have some top picks for you! 👇
🍷La Crema Montery Pinot Noir: perfect to pair with lamb dishes that are heavy on herbs and spices. It`s a great match for grilled lamb, roasted rack of lamb or even lamb chops.
🍷Asúa Crianza Rioja: especially good with roasted or grilled lamb, it has enough body and tannin to stand up to lamb`s richness.
🍷Domaine Langue’s Château Saumur Champigny: as our third choice, this is a good pairing with lamb, but it does depend on how it`s prepared. This red works best with herb-crusted, spring lamb and lamb dishes rich in vegetables.
Read more about all three of our choices in our latest blog post (the link to our website is in our bio!), and if you want a choice to pair with a different dish or to give as a gift, pop in store to speak to our Wine Buffs!
