With a range of backgrounds and experience between us, including numerous WSET qualifications, we want to ensure that you receive friendly, tailored service which allows you to enjoy the Shenfield Wine Co. experience.
I’m passionate about running the wine store because it allows me to share my love for exceptional wines and connect with the community on a personal level. For me, wine is about more than just taste—it’s about tradition, craftsmanship, and stories from around the world. I take pride in offering hand-selected bottles that reflect quality, sustainability, and authenticity, while supporting small producers and educating customers about the beauty and diversity of wine.
Favourite wine:
Warwick Estate Cabernet Franc
Favourite grape:
Cabernet Franc
Qualifications:
Almost two decades of hands-on experience in the wine retail
industry.
I’m Penny, and I have worked in the recruitment industry for over 30 years. Many years ago I started to help Nish in the shop and with tastings, this really helped to develop my love and interest of wine further and prompted me to take the plunge and study for my WEST qualifications.
I am often asked what my favourite wine is but it is tricky to narrow down, it can so depend on what day of the week it is, how I’m feeling, and if I am choosing a wine to match with my dinner!
If pushed, champagne and chardonnay would have to feature, a Ruinart or a Gosset would be delicious, or a lovely oaked chardonnay perhaps from California.
Favourite wine:
Ruinart or Gosset
Favourite grape:
Chardonnay
Qualifications:
WSET Level 1
WSET Level 2
WSET Level 3, with merit.
I’m Richard, and I’ve been a hairdresser for over 40 years. In the past seven years, I’ve also become quite the wine enthusiast!
I’m thoroughly enjoying the journey of discovering more about wine and finding new varieties to appreciate. I like to think I must have been Italian in a past life, as Italian wines are absolute perfection to me.
Favourite wine:
Right now, my favourite red is Aglianico, and for white, it’s Vermentino!
Favourite grape:
Aglianico
Qualifications:
WSET Wine Level 3 (in progress)

My name is Rory, and I’ve spent my entire career in hospitality. I got my start in my family’s hotel in Ireland and went on to work at prestigious establishments like Claridge’s, The Westbury Mayfair, and The Kensington. After that, I served as a director for a recruitment company, and I now hold the role of Operations Manager at the Cocktail Keg Company. I’m also proud to work with Nish and the team at the Shenfield Wine Company, a hidden gem for high-quality products and exceptional tasting events.
I’m passionate about wine and have been fortunate to taste some remarkable red wines and champagnes that would normally be beyond my reach.
Favourite wine:
If Nish is treating, a bottle of 95 Château Margaux would be my pick!
Favourite grape:
Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
Qualifications:
WSET Wine Level 2 (in progress)
WSET Spirits Level 2
WSET Wine Level 1
Hello! I’m Maggie — a retired teacher, avid traveler, passionate gardener, and enthusiastic cook.
I joined the Shenfield Wine Co. when Nish opened the Tasting Room in 2021. Since then, I’ve enjoyed expanding my (previously limited!) wine knowledge while creating tasting platters for our paired wine events.
My love of travel, especially throughout Europe, has greatly influenced my approach to cooking and entertaining. For me, there’s nothing better than a long Italian-style lunch with family and friends, featuring fresh, homegrown ingredients and a bottle or two of Gavi di Gavi or Lugana. Salute!
Favourite wine:
Lugana
Favourite grape:
Cortese
Qualifications:
I don’t have any formal qualifications in wine or food but life experience is the greatest teacher, and I have a few decades of that!
In my 63 years I have enjoyed exploring a wide variety of wines and beers for many years. I have a particular fondness for bold reds like Merlot, Malbec, and Syrah/Shiraz, with Valpolicella Amarone being favourite. Recently, I have ventured into the world of cigars, exploring both Cuban and New World varieties. As a newcomer to this realm, I’m eager to expand my knowledge in the months and years ahead, finding the history and experience of cigars to be both fascinating and exciting.
