Founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar, inspired by Lebanon’s 6,000-year winemaking heritage and his travels to Bordeaux, Château Musar is deeply rooted in history. The Hochar family, of French descent, arrived in Lebanon in the 12th century as Crusaders and have remained ever since. Their modern wine story began in the 1920s under the French Mandate, when Gaston’s “wines with noblesse” impressed senior French officers. A lasting friendship with Major Ronald Barton of Château Langoa-Barton further strengthened the enduring ties between Musar and Bordeaux.
Remarkably, the winery continued producing vintages throughout the Lebanese Civil War, cementing its reputation for resilience and uncompromising quality. Now led by the third generation, Château Musar is regarded as the benchmark of Lebanese wine and one of the world’s most iconic producers, celebrated internationally for its complexity, elegance, and extraordinary ageing potential.
Crafted with a non-interventionist philosophy from organically grown grapes in the famed Bekaa Valley at 1,000 metres altitude, its red blends and indigenous white varieties have earned global acclaim.
Here, you have the opportunity not only to taste this legendary wine, but to learn about its provenance and the remarkable story of how it became one of the world’s most revered icons.
