Setting the scene for your Christmas feast begins with the starters, and every part of your Christmas meal deserves a special wine to go with it. 🍷
This Chianti Classico Riserva from Banfi is built largely from Sangiovese. On the nose you’ll encounter ripe plum and blackberry jam, layered with hints of liquorice, vanilla and leather from the oak ageing. On the palate there’s excellent structure, soft yet perceptible tannins, lively acidity and a savoury finish that lingers.
What starters does it work with and why?
🥩 A charcuterie board or cured meats grazing table.
🥣 Mushroom soup or a creamy mushroom velouté.
🍅 Tomato-based savoury tarts.

With one month to go until Christmas, if you`re thinking about festive wine pairings, we`ve got you covered. First things first, you need to start Christmas morning off right: with a little drop of Bucks Fizz! 🥂
Having said that, although we love a Bucks Fizz on Christmas morning, we’d advise leaving the expensive champagne on the wine rack. Here’s an alternative for you: 2014 Jacques Bruere Brut Reserve champagne blend.
A classic Champagne-style sparkling wine from South Africa, made in the traditional method from a 60/40 blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Last night`s double-header Port tasting was a wonderful way to spend an evening: back-to-back sessions exploring the legendary houses of @taylorsportwine, @croftport and @fonescaport.
Taylor`s Vintage Port was the clear standout. Across both groups, it consistently impressed with its depth and balance, and it was great to see everyone`s reactions as they discovered it for themselves.
Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such an enjoyable night, and of course to @mentzendorff_co for hosting. Good company, good conversation, and some excellent Ports - exactly what we`d hoped for.

What we`re drinking this week: Seghesio Sonoma County Zinfandel. 🍷
On Zinfandel Day, we`re pouring a Californian classic from one of Sonoma`s legendary Zinfandel producers. Five generations of family winemaking go into every glass, and as it`s crafted from over 150 individual vineyard lots across Sonoma County, this Zin represents everything we love about the variety: bright, fruit-forward and food-friendly.
With rich aromas of blackberry, black currant, plum, cherry and baking spices, the wine leads with a lively palate of succulent fruit and supple tannins. Full-bodied and dry, you`ll find flavours of wild berries, mocha, tobacco, leather and exotic spices. 🍷
This Zinfandel loves hearty, rich dishes. Try it with slow-braised short ribs, succulent pork belly, or a luxurious gnocchi. It`s also brilliant with BBQ`d meat, grilled steaks or even a classic cheeseburger! 🍔
