Something that we really pride ourselves on here at Shenfield Wine Co. is our wide range of stock of wine, spirits and cigars. Because of our wide variety of stock, it does mean that we often stock wines which are not so easy to find elsewhere. We’re a veritable treasure chest of a wine shop!
As such, we thought we’d showcase some of the more unusual wines that you may not know that we have in stock. Here are just a few of our favourites:
Bedova Saperavi
One of our faves, Bedova Saperavi is unusual in that is a Georgian wine, and we know that many of our customers are often surprised to hear of Georgia as a wine producing region.
It’s made from Georgia’s native grape, Saperavi, and enjoys a powerful, savoury, spicy nose which features herbs, blackberries and just a hint of black pepper. On the palate, it’s packed with more of those black fruits, and the soft tannins and high acidy of the wine place this red somewhere between a Malbec and a Zinfandel. This makes it perfect for pairing with roasted meats, stews and aged cheeses.
Bedova actually means “Day of Luck” and we certainly think it will be your lucky day if you give this wonderful wine a try!
Akashi-Tai Sake
For something entirely different, how about trying Sake? Sake is a Japanese rice wine, and Akashi-Tai Sake is an artisan Sake brewed in small batches, using the highest quality ingredients, produced locally to the brewery.
With different options available, there’s something to suit every wine drinker:
- Tokubetsu Junmai is a traditional brew, which has a full-bodied flavour profile, and is clean and well structured.
- Junmai Ginjo Sparkling is, as the name suggests, a carbonated sparkling Sake.
- Junmai Daiginjo Genshu is the Akashi Brewery’s “Grand Cru” and showcases the most intense flavours of the premium Yamadanishiki rice.
All of these Sake options enjoy the signature attention to detail of the Akashi-Tai Brewery, with the team of artisans committed to imbuing each batch with the generous flavours that this Sake brewery are known for. We’re now looking ahead to our Sake tasting evening where we’ll pair these with fantastic Sushi from The Sushi Co. for the ultimate Japanese experience!

Tenuta Fertuna Dropello Toscana
This unique white wine is from one of the most exciting producers in Tuscany. It’s made from Sangiovese, which in itself is a Chianti icon, and was born out of the friendship of two of Tuscany’s finest winemakers: Paolo Rivella (Tenuta Fertuna) and Graziana Grassini (Tenuta San Guido). This wine really showcases their combined expertise.
It’s intense and delicate, and you’ll find notes of garden herbs and white fruits. It’s a very drinkable white wine, with little to no after taste, perfect for enjoying as is, but equally enjoyable when paired with fish and pasta dishes in white sauces, or with grilled white meat and seasonal vegetables.
Ca dei Frati ‘I Frati’
Another Italian choice, this one’s from Lugana at the base of Lake Garda. Made from a local grape variety, Turbiana, it enjoys intense and fresh aromas of white flowers, citrus and peaches. Those peachy flavours follow through to the palate, and it’s both delicious and refreshing.
One of our favourite white wines, this wine is made to be paired with creamy pastas and risottos that evoke the tastes of Italy.
