Throwing it back to our Sip and Smoke last Friday! 🔥 The sunny weather we`ve had this year has certainly allowed us to take advantage of our al fresco seating and enjoy a sip, a smoke and the company of likeminded cigar aficionados.
The Partagás Línea Maestra Rito has revealed itself as a favourite from recent Sip and Smoke evenings, and offers a rich, savoury note of leather and earth, layered with gingerbread, clove and orange zest; these flavours paired beautifully with Frapin VSOP Cognac, whose orange, vanilla and warming cinnamon and pepper notes echo the cigar’s sweetness and spice without overpowering it.
Thank you to everyone that joined us; if you didn`t manage to make it this time, keep an eye on our social media for the next one!
Happy Pinot Noir Day! 🍷 Or, as the movie Sideways taught us: there is Pinot…and then there is everything else.
Thin skinned, temperamental, terroir obsessed, Pinot Noir isn’t just a grape. It’s a calling. A way of life. Indeed, "A perfectly reasonable excuse to spend 20 minutes discussing the difference between red fruit, dried red fruit and slightly dried red fruit."
Pinot Noir is, frankly, a dangerous grape for wine merchants. There’s always another bottle to discover. Another vineyard, another vintage, another producer, another bottle that makes you think, “Right. This is the one.”
It’s notoriously tricky to grow. It demands the right place, the right conditions, the right vintage…and apparently, our complete devotion.
When it works: red fruit, earth, spice, silky tannins, that savoury little something. One sip and suddenly you’re checking the label, asking about the vineyard and wondering why you ever drank anything else.
So pour Pinot. Talk about the Pinot. Get unnecessarily passionate about the Pinot. Because today, we’re drinking Pinot.
"We’re not drinking any f*ing Merlot!"**
**Never seen the movie Sideways? If you`re a wine lover, you really should check it out!! 🎬

With today being National Prosecco Day, we thought it was about time to impart a little big of wine knowledge which we feel is particularly worth knowing... 🥂
If you enjoy a glass of Prosecco (or five!), you will have no doubt heard the terms Brut and Extra Dry. But this is where it can get confusing!
Despite the name, Extra Dry Prosecco is actually sweeter than Brut. Yes, really! Here`s a little Shenfield Wine Co. guide to Prosecco:
🥂 Brut: crisper, drier and more refreshing.
🥂 Extra Dry: softer, fruitier and slightly sweeter.
And the easy way to remember it is:
Brut = drier.
Extra Dry = sweeter!
Or you could just save this post for future reference. 😉
It sounds completely backwards…but now you know! 👍 And if all this talk of Prosecco has made you thirsty, you also know where to find us. 😉 Cheers! 🥂

Apparently we need special glasses to view the solar eclipse?! 😎 Pretty sure we`ve already got the glasses that we need for this evening sorted... 🍷
Cheers!! 🥂
(But seriously folks, don`t look at the sun directly - do the whole solar eclipse thing properly and safely with the special glasses or another safe method! And then enjoy a glass of wine afterwards. 😉)

Some things are just better together, and we would put wine and cheese very high up on that list! 🍷🧀
Following on from our recent Crouch Valley wine tasting, we therefore thought that a couple of the pairings deserved a little moment of their own. These are just two of our favourites from the night:
@hollands_crouchvalleywine was paired with Red Fox Red Leicester, Rye Sourdough Crackers and Caramelised Onion Chutney. The creamy, fruity Chardonnay worked beautifully with the rich, slightly sweet and nutty cheese, with the chutney adding another little layer of sweetness.
And for red wine drinkers, we paired @danburyridgewine Pinot Noir with Lincolnshire Poacher, Rye Sourdough Crackers and Fig and Shallot Chutney. Bright red fruit and freshness from the Pinot Noir met the full-flavoured cheese brilliantly, while the fig and shallot chutney rounded everything off rather nicely.
Two English wines. Two very good cheeses. And two combinations we’d happily revisit. 😉
Which one would you choose? Let us know in the comments below 👇

Who says a wine shop can`t know its beer?! 🍺 Today is International Beer Day, so we`re shining a light on our collection of unusual and interesting beers.
From classic European brews to bottles you won`t find in the supermarket, we love stocking beers with character, just as we love stocking wines with personality.
Pictured are just a few of our favourites; we have many more here in store! Let us know in the comments below if you`d like any more info on the beers pictured, too, and we`ll feature them in future posts.
Fancy trying something a little bit different this weekend? Whether it`s beer or wine, we`ve got you covered, and can advise on a tipple to suit your tastebuds...cheers! 🍻

The wine retail world has changed enormously over the past 20 years. More choice, more online retailers, faster delivery, and endless information are all just a click away. 🍷
As an independent wine merchant, we`ve never tried to compete on price; instead, we compete on expertise, education, and creating a great experience. We hand-sell every bottle, take the time to understand what our customers enjoy, and love introducing them to wines they may never have discovered on their own. That`s the Shenfield Wine Co. experience.
In a world of algorithms and online shopping, we still believe nothing beats a real conversation over a great bottle.
A big cheers, therefore, to all of our customers for their amazing support over the years! 🥂
