Throwing it back to our recent Sicilian Wine Tasting with @donnafugatawine: what a wonderful evening of enjoying these wines that embody the soul of Sicily! 🍷
From the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna, it was fantastic hearing all about the tradition with bold innovation that goes into every bottle that Donnafugata produce. Huge thanks to everyone that joined us, and of course to Donnafugata family member Gabriella Favara for guiding us through the evening.
Stand out wines from the night were:
🌋 Sul Vulcano Etna Bianco (Carricante): a wonderfully crisp and expressive white wine, with notes of citrus peel, green apple and delicate white blossom. There’s a distinctive mineral, almost smoky, edge which reflects the lava-rich soils. A beautifully elegant wine that captures both altitude and terroir in every sip.
🍷 Sherazade Nero d’Avola: a vibrant and fruit-forward expression of Nero d’Avola, Sherazade offers juicy notes of ripe cherry, plum and wild berries, lifted by hints of spice and soft Mediterranean herbs. Smooth and approachable, with gentle tannins and a fresh finish, it’s a modern, easy-drinking take on Sicily’s signature red!

What we’re drinking this week: Warwick Professor Black Pitch Black. 🍷
This week we’re pouring something a little darker and bolder. This rich, full-bodied South African red is all about intensity. Expect layers of ripe blackberries, plum and cassis, with hints of dark chocolate, spice and toasted oak. The palate is smooth and concentrated with velvety tannins and a long, warming finish - perfect for these cool, not-quite-spring-yet evenings.
A brilliant match for slow-cooked beef, braised short ribs, or a rich mushroom and lentil stew, the depth of this wine stands up beautifully to hearty, savoury dishes.
