Twenty years of running a wine shop has taught us something that we never expected... 👇

Yes, people come in to buy wine, that`s why we`re here; but over the years, we`ve realised that many people come in for something else, too:

A chat.

We talk about the weather (of course!), what`s happening in Shenfield, something they`ve heard on the news, family, holidays, celebrations...and sometimes, life`s disappointments, too.

We`ve had customers share things with us that they`ve never told anyone else. Joys, worries, hopes, losses. It can be quite humbling when someone trusts you enough to open up.

Looking back over the last 20 years, we`ve come to realise that this little wine shop has never just been about bottles on shelves; it`s been about people.

Friendships built over countless visits. Familiar faces who have become part of the week. New customers who soon become regulars. Conversations that begin with, “I’m looking for a nice red...” and somehow end half an hour later, after we’ve put the world to rights.

In a world that`s becoming increasingly rushed and impersonal, we feel incredibly grateful that our shop is still a place where people can slow down and feel welcome.

So, as we head towards celebrating 20 years, thank you. Thank you for every bottle you`ve bought, every conversation we`ve shared, every laugh, every story, and every moment of trust.

You`ve made this so much more than a wine shop.

It was a pleasure to welcome Kay to the store, to discuss our history and how we made our home in Shenfield, our most recent offering, our Cigar Lounge, and how after nearly 20 years we’re still proud to be the go-to place to pick up a decent bottle of wine, whisky or a cigar.
